Soviet Denim (1970s–80s)
Soviet jeans (produced under the Tver and Rodnik brands) used GOST trouser sizing — waist in centimetres. Soviet jeans waist 78 cm = approximately US 30–31 vintage waist.
Vintage Levi's Sizing
Pre-1990s Levi's 501s run 1–2" larger than the tag at the waist due to shrinkage allowance built into the cut. A tag 32" vintage 501 may measure 33–34" flat.
