Choosing the correct ushanka size requires measuring your head circumference and understanding whether the hat is military-issue (structured) or civilian (more flexible).

Military vs Civilian Ushanka Sizing
Military ushankas (Soviet army issued) have a stiffer structure and run true to size. Civilian ushankas with natural fur lining often run half a size small because the fur compresses and moulds to your head over time.
Ushanka Size by Head Circumference
Measure your head just above the ears and across the forehead. For a winter ushanka worn over a base layer, add 1 cm to your bare head measurement. This gives you your ideal ushanka size.
